Aug 20th | Mamaroneck, NY To Jersey City, NJ |
Departed Mamaroneck at 6:15 Am wind was from the SSW at <5 knots We arrived at Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City at about 10:45am. We tides and currents were with us throughout Hells Gate. We motored the complete trip totaling 23.6 miles. Going under the bridges is breathless. Looking at the Planes taking off and landing and sailing by Ricker's Island was pretty cool. Going through Hell's Gate at the wrong time could ruin you trip on a sailboat plan you trip around the currents. At the end of the East River is a site to be seen. Just under the Brooklyn Bridge is a view of the Status of Liberty and South Street Pier (view of a few Tall Ships). We are to stay at Libery Landing for 2 nights. There is a ferry that leaves the marina on the 1/2 hour to North Cove in NYC. Friday we went over to NYC and walked around NYC in the area of the World Trade Center. On Saturday we went to Elis Island then to NYC to Times Square. Liberty Island is a very reasonable at $2 per ft. It is well sheltered and very easy to get to all the sites. |
