A less then perfect Trip. We planed Hells Gate at the time of max current with us (What we wanted). We knew that Tue-Sat they had something scheduled at the UN that required the East river to be closed between 9am-5pm. Well the CG changed it to include Monday. As we come around the corner BAM the CG and Police said this is a secure zone and you can't pass We know that the back side of Roosevelt Island has a 40ft Bridge that does not open. Now that 5 other sailboat are here. They decided to open the Bridge (Well it didn't work), After 2 hours they got it fixed. This placed us about 2.5 hours behind and the wind pick-up to about 18kt against the current at the Narrows with 3-5 ft waves. |
